Master Time for Writing Success

Time is invaluable; wasting it equates to wasting your life. Taking charge of your time means taking charge of your life. This does not entail constantly watching the clock or seeking ways to accomplish as many tasks as possible in the shortest amount of time. It entails focusing on what matters most to you as a writer – maybe writing and building a successful publishing career.

When it comes to managing time, my philosophy centers around four main aspects: pursuing activities that will have the greatest positive impact on my life, pursuing activities that bring me joy and fulfillment (as these two often overlap), avoiding procrastination (which hinders productivity), and maintaining enthusiasm for each project until its completion.

Ultimately, what we desire is Control (note the capital C) – control over our own lives. We all have an abundance of time; it is simply a matter of using it wisely, to control it. To attain this level of control, we must eliminate any activities that do not contribute to our life-changing pursuits and follow the four benchmarks I mentioned above.

The steps toward achieving this control are identifying what you truly want to accomplish in your writing and publishing career, making a plan, looking at things that are interfering with your goals and adjusting or eliminating them, and then following your plan. We all have the same number of hours in the day; the successful have no more than the unsuccessful. Follow your plan and your vision, use your time wisely, take charge of your life, and you will find yourself having all the time in the world to achieve everything important to you.
